Last Week’s Workouts

Since I’ve stopped working and my kids are no longer in daycare, their “social” time is at our gym’s daycare (I call it Gym School πŸ™‚ ). They love going there. And I love that I get 2 full hours of being able to do what I want–and sometimes that’s absolutely nothing, lol! #keepingitreal

We’ve gotten into a routine now of going every day M-F and that has helped me get into a good workout routine. This was the third week in a row where I worked out 5 or more times.

Monday–was a rest day. I had worked out the 3 days prior (400 yd swim, 8 miles, 8 miles) so I was beat.

Tuesday — Comfortable 5 miler at 8:58/mile.

Wednesday–I got on the stationary bike for 8 miles on the interval setting. I wanted to hit 8 miles as that is the bike distance for my first tri this weekend. I got in some core work and MYRTLES (thanks Allison!) afterward.

Thursday–This was going to be a run day but my buddy Olivia @BalancingMommy invited me to spin class. I remembered my tough 8 miler the day before but said yes anyway, lol.

It was a fun, hard class as that’s usually the case with the couple of times I’ve done spin. I love sweating and spin never disappoints, ja!

13.8 miles!

13.8 miles!

Friday–I have quite a few friends doing the tri I’m doing, and one of them, T, wanted to do a trial run of the whole thing. The whole thing. I remembered my tough bike 8 miler on Wednesday, and my tough 13. 8 miler at spin on Thursday, but said yes anyway, lol! (Noticing a theme here??)

So we did 400m in the pool first. This was so ridiculously hard. I stopped after each 50 to make sure I was still alive. I tried my hardest to keep the pauses short and there were a few times I had to stop in between, but I finished. I was so happy I finished. And I was really happy that I’d agreed to do it because it definitely helped build my confidence going into the real thing.

Then we got on the bike for 8 miles. We kept this at a low, easy setting so it wasn’t hard. The real thing though? HILLS. Lots of them. Olivia, my spin class buddy, did this tri last year and said people were walking their bikes up the hills. Yikes.

Finally, after the bike we immediately went to the treadmills. T showed me the new treadys that I hadn’t seen as I don’t usually venture to that side of the gym. They were Woodways!! I only know of Woodway treadmills because of my buddy RunEMZ who has done 100 milers on them (yes, you read that right). Once I got on it, I could tell why she loved running on her Woody. It was such a smooth ride! I finished my 2 miler (the real thing will be 2.5 and outside) feeling accomplished. I finished!!

Saturday–The logical thing to do would be rest but you know that’s not how I roll. I woke in the morning and met up with T yet again for a 10 miler. We started at 5:45, got 4 miles, then swung back and met up with the rest of our friends for the final 6 which we negative split!!

After all of that, my husband and I took our kids to our local Beer & BBQ festival πŸ™‚

I was def up for a break and took a nice rest day on Sunday πŸ™‚ Overall, it was a great week of working out. I did neglect my core and MYRTLES a bit but am resolved to pick it up again this week.

Swim : 400m Bike : 29.8 miles Run : 17 miles

Now it’s a mini taper leading up to my first tri this Saturday!! Eeeeep!!

–How was your workout week?

–Have you ever done a tri? How did your first one go? Just to put it out there, I’m terrified, lol!!!

  1. I LOVE Woodways. I want one so badly but they are pricey!!!!

I did two tris two years ago. I’m too traumatized to talk about them. Mostly because I hate swimming with a passion. Not because anything bad happened.

    You’ll do great.

  2. Good luck with your upcoming tri! I’ve never done one. I’m not a strong swimmer at all and haven’t been on a real bike since I was a kid!! LOL, and since I stink at 2 out of the 3 I don’t see any in my future! Your prep week was awesome and I’m sure you’ll do great this weekend!

  3. I have never done a tri but I am in AWE of those who do! Do you follow Kristen at Glitter and Dust? She is training for an Iron Man and I just love every single thing she writes about- whether it’s her training, her newborn, or whatnot.

  4. OH MY GOSH YOUR TRI IS COMING UP SO FAST!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE triathlons. I’ve raced sprints, olympics, and half ironmen! My favorite distance is the Olympic. I haven’t done a full Ironman yet because I want a new road bike. Plus I’ve been more run obsessed this year πŸ™‚ You are going to have SO MUCH FUN. SO MUCH FUN. I wish I could come and cheer!!!!!

You had such an amazing week! You are fit and ready for this. Thanks for the shout out!! ❀

  5. I have never done a tri because I haaaaate swimming because I feel like I can’t breathe and I haaaaate biking because it hurts my hoo ha.

I wish Callum would go in the gym’s daycare! UGH! He just cries and cries and clings to me. SUCKS. You had such a great week of workouts last week! Nice job! You’re going to do great this weekend! Can’t wait to see how it goes!

    • My kids went to actual daycare for a while and then when I started staying home and going to the gym, I think that made it easier for them to stay at the gym daycare. Before, like waaaay before (L was little and B was 6 months) they wouldn’t last more than 30 minutes, lol! I had to pull out of my gym and didn’t go back til 2 years later (now).

  6. Nice week! It looks like you are just loving working out right now! Good luck with the tri. I’ve never done one and can’t say I’m tempted but then I said I’d never do a marathon so maybe one day – you can be the guinea pig!

  7. great week of training and best of luck with that tri! I did 4 triathlons a couple years ago before running took over…i had a blast, as far as the swim…well, i didn’t drown but i was really glad to get out of the water and i’ll leave it at that…but i finished them all and would love to do another one day, maybe even a full Iron if I can ever get my swimming improved…good luck!

  8. What an awesome week! Thanks for the shoutout :)! I’m so glad you were there to help ease my new class anxiety. It was a good workout and I’ll definitely be there when my schedule allows.

Now you’re going to have to show me where those fancy new treadmills are hiding! You can tell that I’m a creature of habit and I don’t lift or stray far away from the normal treadmill section…

You are such a rockstar. You’ll rock it the tri this weekend. πŸ™‚ <3!

  9. Loving all these workouts – you are ON FIRE, girl! Your tri is going to be amazing! I don’t know if I’ll ever do one of those lol. That requires me getting much better at swimming…and biking on an actual bike and not a stationary one hahaha (I’m so uncoordinated!)
