A Change Would Do You Good

Here’s another post title song reference for you (or Ralph 😉 ) to name the singer, lol!

So there’s been a few life changes happening over here in HellyLand with the biggest being a career change for me.

I’m excited to share with all of you that I am now a REALTOR!!!

I’ve written in the past about my tug-of-war with teaching and this last stint was the clincher in which I realized I needed to take a break from it. I absolutely LOVED being an English teacher, but the amount of grading was extremely taxing and overwhelming. And, the politics of it all (I’m in Arizona where we’re the last in the country for student funding) was/is disheartening.

I knew I still wanted to help people because that’s my jam, and I knew that I needed flexibility with scheduling because of my husband’s traveling andplusalso #kids…..I kept coming back to real estate.

It was 6 weeks of schooling, 2 exams, and a ton of money but now it’s official!!

Find me at Homes by Helly on Facebook:)

and at @homesbyhelly on Instagram

I even have my own Facebook and Instagram business page that you can follow if you want to see me looking like a normal person and not in sweaty running clothes, LOL. I feel so professional!!!

With all this newness, it’s no wonder my running has faltered. I’ve shared with you my recent struggles with my motivation towards training (or lack of) and I think it’s because I’ve been so focused on this career change. It does worry me, trying to balance it all, but I’m excited to try something different. If it means that running might need to take a back seat, I think I’m going to have to let it.

That being said, TOMORROW I REGISTER FOR BOSTON!!!!!!! I have a feeling this is going to re-ignite my running fire ❤

Thank you all for staying with me. I know I haven’t been very active here, but I appreciate you continuing to stop by and catch up:)

xoxo,

helly

Hellooooo December!!! #birthdaymonth

screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-11-58-42-am

December 16th–save the date! 😀

There are so many things I want to write about–like my review/thoughts on Hanson’s Marathon Method and how I’ve been really working on my running/racing mental game–but right now, all I can think about is how it’s already freaking December! How in the hell did that happen!!!

It’s my birthday month and I don’t know about the rest of you December birthday people, but growing up I got a lot of the “Here’s your birthday AND Christmas present.” Ugggghhhhhh….. seriously the worst thing a 10 year-old can hear. Aaaand, trying to have a birthday party during the holidays (and during school break)–fugghedaboutit….

#stillbitter

But on the bright side, like someone on my Instagram noted about their spouse, my husband has been making up for the lack of presents I received growing up 😀 Love ya, babe!!

Anyway, I leave you with this:

and welcome to December!!!

I’ll get back to writing running stuff soon, lol!

–Do you or anyone you know have a December birthday and complain about the one gift for both holidays like I do?

–How do you feel about December? Do you get nostalgic over the year or excited about the upcoming year?

–Do you celebrate your birthday all month like I do?

Friday Five: June Favorites!

It’s been a while since I’ve linked up with the DC Trifecta Mar, Cynthia, and Courtney but to celebrate the middle of the year, I figured, it’s time! 🙂

June was a good month.

1st: I reached the century mark in mileage!

Ended the month on the 'mill

Ended the month on the ‘mill

This month of pre-season training was a success as I’m feeling good going into marathon training next week. I’m ready as I’ll ever be for Hanson’s craziness, eeek!!!

2nd : I tricked my kids into eating fruit. Now my son LOVES fruit and chooses that over regular dessert any day, but my daughter–she loves her chocolate. One afternoon in June, I was about ready to chop an apple when I got a bright idea. My kids love fries (just like mommy) and it occurred to me that I could cut the apple to look like In-n-Out fries.

VOILA!! Apple fries!!

VOILA!! Apple fries!!

The kids ate it up!! Of course, I sold it by saying, “Wow!! Check out these apple fries!!” Apple, gone!!

3rd : I continued my Mom-of-the-YearMonth status by finding these amazingly cheap PJ Masks costumes on Amazon. If you’re not a parent, these three characters are from a Disney cartoon that my kids (and all kids) are obsessed with. When they came in the mail, my kids seriously thought I was the coolest mom in the world.

Catboy, Owlette, and Gecko <3

4th : The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Championship. This was seriously history. My brother and sister live in Ohio so I’m a Cavs fan by association. Plus, I’ve always liked Lebron (except during the whole “Taking my talents to South Beach Fiasco”).

Game 7 was a mini party at my house and a scream-fest the entire game. When it ended, I was left with no voice but no matter–we got the win!!

5th : I got to meet Corey and see The Goonies on the big screen! Our movie theatre shows classic movies every Tuesday and last Tuesday they were showing The Goonies with a special appearance by Corey Feldman. I of course had to go.

My buddy and I got there super early and already the lines to take a picture with him were looooong. We were told we wouldn’t be able to meet him.

😦

But Goonies never say die.

We ended up in a line near where he was doing interviews and were able to snag a picture as he walked by us. Then, my buddy bought a CD of his (who knew Corey sang?) which guaranteed him an autograph.

The inside of his CD…..yeah……

It was a super fun night and the movie never gets old. Such a good one.

Overall, June was pretty happening. 😀
