Guess Who’s Back?…

Who finished the song lyric in their heads? (Ralph??) Lol!!

Anyway, I’m back as in back to the blog-o-sphere and back to running, but let me tell you, I am not back as in “running shape”.

Back to writing— In this point of my running life, I’m in a vulnerable state. I’m the heaviest weight wise I’ve ever been not pregnant and the most out of shape I’ve ever been since I’ve started running.

So of course I want to write and share all of that with you. 😀

Back to running— The itch to get back into the running game is strong, the goal running game, that is. The I-Feel-Like-I-Want-To-Die-While-Training running.

On a serious note though, I’ve always loved reading about real people and their journeys. It’s what motivated me to start running in the first place–I NEVER thought I would qualify and run Boston Marathon. But I’ve seen what I can do when I put mind to it, test my limits, and become comfortable with uncomfortable.

I think I’m ready to do that again. And I want to share that journey with you–that even if you think you’re starting at a really tough spot (and maybe you really are, because I certainly am), it’s okay. It’s okay to be vulnerable. It’s okay to be scared–of failing, of quitting, of whatever. I’ve learned that through sticking with the training, just seeing what would happened if I showed some discipline, man…amazing things can happen.

LET’S DO THIS.

–Do you sometimes feel defeated before you even start training? How do you get out of your head?

–Do you keep goals attainable? Just hard enough but still realistic? Or do you go big or go home?

How Starting a New Job is Like Starting a New Training Plan

In my last post from a time long ago, I shared the exciting news that I am now a full-time realtor #yay! The past few weeks have found me immersed in all things real estate; it reminded of how I get when I start a new training plan.

When you start a new training plan:

…you write each workout on a calendar
…and cross off each day as you complete it
…you analyze each workout and have no doubts you’ll be able to nail it #igotthis
…you look at each week’s mileage and question if it’s not enough
…you buy new workout clothes because, well, it’s a new training cycle
…every run is exciting because you’ve. got. goals.

Similarly, when you get a new job:

…you start using the fancy calendar in your phone to track your meetings
…and promptly fill it up with events because you need to be at all the things
…you get motivated by all the new, cool stuff you’re learning
…you look at your daily tasks list and triumphantly cross things off as you do them
…you buy new work clothes because you’re #adulting
…every challenge is exciting because you’ve. got. goals.

All this lasts for about a month, right? And then…..

…the novelty wears off and all you really feel is TIRED.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m having a blast learning new things and getting the hang of real estate, but I def feel like this past month has been a bit of a blur. Things are finally beginning to settle down and I’m establishing more of a routine, which is super important to me because I thrive on structure. It’s been tough trying to manage my workouts to fit with my work schedule though, and I’ve had to move things around A LOT, but I’m proud that for the most part, I’ve only been moving and not skipping them.

Summer training was difficult, and now that fall has officially arrived and the weather has at long last shown us good temps, I’ve been able to get some more consistent running in. Of course, all the while, doing this new job thing, lol!!

I’ve got work goals, and I’ve got running goals.

Originally, I had decided to drop out of 3TV Half Marathon, but I’m feeling better about giving a race a shot. So, I’ve decided to give it a go at the 10k! I don’t remember the last time I’ve raced a 10k and I have a feeling it’s going to be painful, but I’m excited that I’m finally excited. I have a goal in mind for this race. You’ll know what it is if I hit it, LOL!! But really, I’m mostly curious to see where I’m at and have a better of idea of my fitness going into Boston Marathon training #omg.

That’s pretty much what’s up in my world. I had a friend the other day (who follows both my work and running Instagram) message me asking how I fit it all in.

One word: Caffeine

Lots of it. And in different forms. I like to go to the three C’s–Coke, Coffee, and Chocolate

Well thanks for catching up! I renewed this blog thing for another year so hopefully you’ll stick around ❤

–Do you get excited about starting a new job and/or training plan? Do you think they’re similar in ways?

–What is your caffeine preference, if any? (If none, HOW??!!)

Pepsi=Ew

You Have Some Splaining To Do!!!

I know, I know. What the hell happened to Helly?!!?

Well, to be perfectly honest, I was tired. Training for Phoenix and qualifying for Boston took a lot out of me and even thought I took a good, long break, I needed another good, long break! Lol!! So here we are, four months later….

I finally feel like I’m “back to normal”–back to feeling exciting about running, about new goals. You know I wouldn’t be back here on the blog if I didn’t have new goals 😉

But before I get to that, I have some exciting news (and another explanation to my absence and lack of running)…

MY HUSBAND QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON!!!!!

It was our dream to go to Boston together and when I qualified in Phoenix, we knew that the pressure was on him to get his BQ. So the focus became on that–Ben took full advantage of my break and ran 6 days a week, strength trained like a mad man, and on June 10 ran a 2:58 at the Light at the End of the Tunnel Marathon in Washington!!!

Me and my sub 3 marathoner ❤

We both had monster PRs for our BQs–with both of us cutting 15 minutes to get them (me 3:44—>3:29 and him 3:13—>2:58). We honestly still can’t believe it!! It was such an emotional day, as evident by this picture below–him crossing the finish line, and me behind him feeling *everything* We booked our hotel for Boston and now the waiting begins!!!!

BUT, of course I’m incapable of just sitting and watching the time go by. I’ve decided to specifically train for a half marathon this fall (11/4) and shoot for a PR (my PR is 1:39 so you can imagine how hard it’ll be to beat that!). I’ve never solely trained for a half as I’ve always done them in the midst of marathon training; so, I’m curious to see how/what I can do if I only focused on that. I’m back with my coach, and training starts July 1st!!!

I’ll be on the blog chronicling this craziness — I hope you join me for the ride!!!
